Blijf wakker op je werk.

Maandagochtend…
De vorige avond te laat gaan slapen…
Je krijgt je ogen moeilijk open terwijl je dat rapport doorleest…
Je kan je niet concentreren…

We hebben dit allemaal al wel eens meegemaakt.
Natuurlijk val je niet in slaap achter je bureau of computer, maar het soms is toch erg moeilijk om alert te blijven.

In dit artikel staan een paar praktische manieren om wakker en gefocused te blijven op je werk, wanneer je echt moe bent. 

De oorzaak.

Eerst en vooral is het belangrijk om vast te stellen waarom je moe bent.
Als je dit weet, kan je er iets aan doen. Uiteindelijk is het voor niemand een goede zaak dat je ogen dicht vallen terwijl je aan het werk bent; niet voor jezelf (dit is soms een echt genante situatie) maar ook niet voor je werkgever (qua anti-productiviteit kan dit echt wel tellen).

Een aantal algemene oorzaken kunnen  zijn :

  • Te laat opblijven
  • Slecht eetpatroon
  • Te veel of te weining beweging
  • Te veel en te laat koffie drinken
  • Te veel en te laat alcohol drinken
  • Slechte slaapgewoontes
  • Verstoorde slaap (geluid, een snurkende partner,…)

Zoals je ziet, zijn er verschillende oorzaken die het resultaat van de volgende dag kunnen beïnvloeden.

Hoe kan je alerter worden tijdens je werk, terwijl je toch moe bent

1. Eet fruit
Fruit is uitstekend geschikt om tussendoor te eten. Het geeft je snel terug energie, zonder dat je nadien nog sneller crasht.
Snacks die veel verfijnde suikers bevatten zoals frisdranken en snoeprepen, geven je wel een half uurtje een boost, maar daarna gaat je energie peil weer erg snel naar beneden.
Als je fruit eet, blijft dit peil constant.

2. Drink water
Veel mensen weten dit niet maar uitdroging is ook een grote oorzaak van vermoeidheid. Zet een fles water op je bureau en drink elk uur een glas.

3. Zet de verwarming lager
Als je echt moeite moet doen om wakker te blijven, zet dan de verwarming wat lager.
Misschien heb je op je werk wel een airconditioning die je wat frisse lucht kan laten blazen.
Koude lucht laat de interne thermostaat van je lichaam werken. Op deze manier word je vanzelf alerter

4. Drink thee of koffie
Dit is iets waar je waarschijnlijk als eerste aan had gedacht. Zonder koffie kan je echt niet werken…denk je.
Eigenlijk is koffie een slechte oplossing omdat het verslavend werkt. Als je echt koffie nodig hebt om de dag te beginnen, dan ben je niet goed bezig. Een kop gezonde groene Chinese thee is echt veel gezonder.

5. Wandel (of loop) de trappen op
Wie trappen wandelt of loopt, laat zijn hartslag de hoogte in gaan en dit is een goede manier om jezelf wakkerder te maken. Maak er een gewoonte van om af en toe wat kleine oefeningen te doen. Dit verbetert opmerkelijk je waakzaamheid

6. Adem eens diep
Boeddhisten zeggen dat je erg diep vanuit je buik moet ademen in plaats van het bovenste deel van je longen te gebruiken. Als je op deze maner ademt, heeft dit een kalmerend effect.
Het zorgt er ook voor dat je geest ontwaakt omdat je focust op je interne lichaam.
Probeer dit eens toe te passen, elke keer als je voelt dat je gedachten en je focus beginnen af te dwalen.
Breng jezelf terug naar het nu door deze ademhaling toe te passen.

7. Ga een luchtje scheppen
Soms is alleen al zitten in een warm kantoor, in een gemakkelijke stoel, met zacht pratende collega’s al voldoende om je in slaap te soezen.
Ga even naar buiten en adem wat frisse lucht in. Het beste is dat je dit combineert met een kleine wandeling; 5 minuten is al voldoende.

8. Ga je collega’s helpen
Als je andere collega’s gaat helpen, dan wordt je vanzelf meer gefocused.
Je aandacht verplaatst zich dan van je eigen slaperige situatie (die soms ook gewoon comfortabel is ) naar de uitdaging om anderen iets te laten begrijpen.
Je geest is nu afgeleid en je wordt vanzelf alerter.
